the noble legboat is really just a giant shrimp with six very, very long legs that walk along the ocean floor. before engines were invented, strapping a boat to a giant walking shrimp seemed like the most efficient way to travel long distances over water, and the tradition still holds up to this day. they are usually steered by a wheel attached to a small rod on the underside of the boat that gently prods the shrimp to turn, albeit very slowly.
