augustine passed away at a young age, about 19 presumably, in a relatively peaceful way... then awoke again as a vampire, shunned by their community which had no prior knowledge of the condition. it hurt quite bad, but augustine has always been quite a positive person, making jokes of their situation whenever they can. they were taken in by brugmansia, a miner who also suffers from vampirism.
augustine now works as a scout for brugmansia's mining company, their vampirism allowing them to shift to a smaller bat form and fly around freely. this lets them see what's in each cave before charging all the way in; just in case there's silver, which brugmansia is highly allergic to. better safe than sorry, right? and teamwork makes the dream work...!
