lottie is a brave and friendly person, if not a little awkward and distant at times. he loves to share his knowledge of the sea with people, especially those who never had a chance to see the ocean. he tends to rush into situations without thinking too hard if he's under pressure; he is very smart and patient otherwise, just very bad under pressure. he is haunted by nightmares and a pervasive fear of hurting his loved ones, though these have lessened over time.
he was born to a family held in high regard by their community, happy and healthy and with a younger twin brother to boot. after some time, another younger sibling was born too, but their father's health was on the decline, and it wasn't soon after that he had passed away. after this, lottie's twin brother had "risen to the occasion" to become the head of the household, and in turn, one of the city leaders. in his hunger for power though, he had become twisted and abusive. an altercation between he and lottie had resulted in his death, leaving lottie to be framed as a political assassin of sorts. lottie was given the choice of exile or execution, and he picked the former, wandering from the ocean up to land, hoping to start a new life.
for what it's worth, he's fine with any of his names or nicknames. he went by latifolia after coming to the surface, shortening it to lottie after a while and using that as his name for many many years. his family, upon reunion, does call him hazuki, though, which he's happy with.
