umeko

behold! the many benefits of being a marine biologist: not having to deal with people very often, and being around animals instead. umeko's dream for sure! it loves being in the water, being around the water, playing with sea creatures... they don't expect it to talk, or act any specific way... ah, how lovely!

it has the ability to breathe in any situation; or rather, not need to breathe at all? lack of air be damned! umeko lives on, no matter the circumstances! though, this feeling of surviving anything, never needing for one of life's most basic of building blocks, has left umeko in a strange position. it feels like it isn't truly alive, like it's stuck between those who move forward and those who no longer can. and yes, it does go through the motions, it has a happy life, it wants for nothing, but to be deprived, denied something as simple but major as breathing makes one feel... odd. out of place. beached.

umeko and its siblings were made by an alchemist centuries ago, a strange person who was born with characteristics unlike any beastkin before them. they wanted a family, one with similar features, one where they wouldn't be exiled for their strangeness, and so they set out to make one. literally, making them with their own two hands out of alchemical reagents and... parts... that they had gathered. eventually, this cold parental figure passed on, but the siblings never did. they lived onwards, into the distant future...

personality

• funny - even without speaking, its comedic timing is something to be admired; usually its jokes are made through the use of any little objects they have on them at the time
• quiet - it doesn't like talking, no, and prefers if you let it do its work in silence too
• curious - it has a massive yet mild hunger for knowledge, always wondering what lies deeper than where it's been previously
• withdrawn - socializing, opening up, making friends... none of these are enjoyable to umeko
• open-minded - it likes hearing other points of view, even if it doesn't end up agreeing with them... after all, learning is important!

design notes

• she is a little bit fat, and has small breasts
• her skin is light tan, with lots of freckles and acne scarring
• her eyes are light green, but she likes to keep them covered with her bangs
• she mostly wears wetsuits with loose clothes over top, and rainboots
• her hair is wavy-curly, and shorter in the back than the front
