beastkin

beastkin are by far the most common race on teres. their appearances vary quite wildly, often being comparable to humans with animal-like additions of ears and tails, but they can also appear more on the animal-like end of the spectrum. in terms of the more animal-like beastkin, they have a humanoid stature, but are covered in fur or otherwise animal-like skin, often with a snout and paws.

culture

• family structure: beastkin traditionally live in communities of 4-5 families, with these families consisting of 2-3 parents and any children they may have.
• languages commonly spoken: beastkin have quite a few different languages amongst themselves, but over the years these languages have started to merge and morph into a single tongue with regional dialects. there isn't much of a naming convention for beastkin, but quite often they are named after objects or values that their parents held in high regard.
• art: as beastkin feel so closely tied to their gods, more often than not, they like to take part in whichever art is associated with their personal god. not every beastkin is incredibly creatively inclined, but it's highly encouraged to at least dabble in it.
• sexuality and gender: to be added
• values: beastkin value diversity, loyalty, and community over all else.
• religion: it's generally believed that beastkin are direct descendants of the gods, formed by their own hands in their own likenesses. they tend to be very loyal to the god that they feel closest to; it's very common to believe in them all equally but have one specific god to worship personally.
• traditions: stories are passed down through various forms of art, from tapestries to songs to glasswork. beastkin generally greet members of their community by clasping each others' hands in their own, and sometimes touching noses.

biology

• notable characteristics: beastkin are humanoid, but have animal-like features; how apparent these features are varies from person to person, and even family to family. these traits can be as subtle as just animalistic eyes, or as visually apparent as those of what's known as a "furry" on earth. because their builds are so varied, their preferred diets and homes are varied just as much.
• diet: many beastkin prefer to take up a plant-based diet, due to feeling like animals are their distant family, even though biologically this is not true. they do tend to be a little sensitive to allium (onions, garlic, etc.), and dairy.
• preferred climate: depending on their own physiology, beastkin as a whole have many different preferred climates. due to this, they can live virtually anywhere on the planet, as long as they can comfortably handle the temperatures themselves.
• sex: sexual characteristics in beastkin are generally the same as humans on earth, though some vary quite a bit, due to their animal traits. for example, snail beastkin would operate differently than cat beastkin.
• reproduction: beastkin reproduce sexually, give viviparous birth, and can mate with humans, dwarves, elves, and other beastkin.

trivia

• while they do look like the animals you or i see on our planets, there is actually no relation; it's what's known as "convergent evolution," which we won't get into here.
